Wire Jacket Hangers are Better than You Think

There is a prevailing notion that wire jacket hangers are an inferior choice for one's sport jackets and suits. These hangers are said to crease the shoulders of the jacket, as thin metal wire will only have a thin surface area of contact to the shoulders. This presses against the jacket as it is hung. The thin wire hanger will supposedly crease and create a fold on the jacket shoulder where in stylish formal attire, one should not exist.

This, however, paints a poor picture of what wire hangers can really do for a wardrobe. Having a good set of wire clothes hangers is useful, since they're the cheap, affordable, and readily available option for people with jackets to care for on a budget. While supposedly thinner and more easily twisted out of shape compared to its plastic and wood counterparts, these hangers still can hold heavier jackets of leather or denim. People can choose metal wire hangers to stow away the clothes that are lighter in nature, such as hoodies or sports windbreakers.

The cheap and affordable prices for wire hangers also allow people to buy them en masse. They can be quickly adopted for other clothes as well: T-shirts, undershirts and button-up shirts are some of the items that one can still make use of these hangers for. It may not be what the wire jacket hangers were strictly made for, but their simplicity means that they can be versatile enough to take on multiple functions in the closet.

Wire Cloth
How do I know my old house wiring is safe?

Its at least 50 yr old. Metal cable w/ 2 wires inside. The internal wires are wrapped in a woven cloth like material. Each wire is encased in a rubber coating. The rubber coating seems brittle to the touch.

OH please?! Even though it sounds bad its really not. You have armoured cable and the metal jacket is well grounded.
So dont panic. Dont lose any sleep and dont automatically call an electician or have it all replaced.
If there is any kind of short in the wire it will automatically trip the breaker or blow the fuse.
The metal Jacket on the wire constitutes a perfectly code compliant ground and is actually safer than the cloth wrapped romex with a ground wire. Which came along just after armoured cable.
The best thing to do is upgrade your service panel to breakers if it is not already. And if they are the old style 'pushmatic' breakers I would suggest you do upgrade to the latest type service panel with new breakers.
