which digital decoder would I get for my BlueLine USRA Heavy Mikado 2-8-2, ERIE #3206, DCC ready ho scale?

Thank you for your time I just purchashed an BlueLine USRA Heavy Mikado 2-8-2, ERIE #3206, DC Sound/DCC Ready HO scale Steam Engine and I would like to know what decoder I need to get for that engine. Have a great day

It is either an eight pin or nine pin plug. Probably nine pin, being a Broadway Limited loco. Your owner's manual will tell you.

Next step, go on line to find a nine pin decoder. BLI is fine, but you may want to shop other brands to find one that will fit into your budget, if money is tight. I recommend either hobbylinc.com or redcaboose.com. They carry BLI stuff as well. The folks at redcaboose are very knowledgeable and helpful. Call 'em if you still need help.

When your choice arrives, removed the nine pin jumper now in place in the plug on the loco. Insert new decoder and then program from your DCC controller as with any DCC engine. The controller's owner's manual will tell you how to program the loco.

Then, you can add the sound unit. BLI sound is good (I have several), but there are other units that are superior, to some people's taste, like Tsunami (Japanese) or Lok Sound (German). But, they are not cheap, at least not according to my pocket book. I have two Inter-Mountain SP AC-12's waiting for decoder and Lok Sound installation.

Some day...

Have fun!
