Why can't someone improve his or her IQ TEST SCORE by retaking the test?
The IQ test is a standardized test of achievement just like the SAT or the GRE. It is possible to retake a professonally administered IQ test one year after you have taken the test. After obtaining your initial score, you have a whole year to focus on learning how to obtain a higher SCORE, which is similar to what can be done with SAT and GRE training courses designed to teach people how to get better scores. What's wrong with doing this? If the IQ test has external validity for what it claims to measure (intelligence), then obtaining the higher score on the IQ test potentially gives you "evidence" of increased level of intelligence according to the existing scale.
*Please pay attention to the specific question I am asking. There is no need to define for me what the IQ test is or is not. All I'm asking is whether it is indeed possible to improve your score on the test by retaking it. If you answer this question please state the source by which you know your answer to be correct.
A good IQ test is designed to have consistant results. If the score is different every time the test is taken by the same person and the person is in the same condition each time, then it isn't a good test. Consistancy doesn't prove validity, but if a test is not consistant, it can't be valid.
