Do You Have a Car Maintenance Schedule?

Most of the tasks involved in car maintenance are things that need to be done on a regular basis. This often involves the use of a schedule of some kind. By mapping out maintenance tasks on a schedule, you will be more likely to stick to it. It is so easy to get caught up in day to day life and forget about getting that oil change or tire rotation. But these are things that need to be done if you wish to keep your car functioning properly. Neglect of your vehicle can lead to damage and costly repairs. They can be prevented before they start if you put some extra care into keeping and following your maintenance schedule.

In some instances, the dealership that sells you the vehicle requires that you bring it to them for servicing due to warranty related details. In this case, often the dealer will send you a notice indicating that it is time for your next servicing to be performed. If you do not have an arrangement like this one, you will have to keep track of your next service date yourself. Some mechanics and auto shops will arrange a schedule with you if you are a regular customer. Ask your mechanic if this type of feature is offered. It can be quite convenient to allow someone else to take care of this aspect.

Organize the maintenance schedule for your car on the computer and create a print out that you can hang somewhere. Often the wall of the garage is a great spot or near the porch. Just make sure that it is in a location that will not easily be missed. Keep an additional copy inside the glove box of the car too just to be on the safe side. Then if you ever need to refer to it when you are out, it will be right there within reach.

It is a good idea to plan your service dates around your pay days. Then you will always have the cash on hand and will not run into a situation where you have to postpone the appointment. All it takes is postponing one to throw off your entire schedule. Creating a reminder alarm in your cell phone can be helpful too. Have it alert you that your appointment will be coming up in a few days. It never hurts to have additional reminders, especially if you are the forgetful type or you tend to get sidetracked and incredibly busy.

Turning certain car maintenance chores into a habitual routine can help you to make the job second nature. For example, you could start checking the oil level every time that you put gas in the car. Turning things like this into a habit makes it less of a chore and ensures that it gets done often. Keeping a maintenance schedule is something that you will be glad that you started. Cars do not come cheap and neither do damages caused by neglect. Start now in order to prevent and eliminate trouble spots later.

Many States are Considering putting a Tracking Device in your car to Tax you on your road usage, is that OK?

I don't like it, to me it is an invasion of privacy and more Big Brother, it also begs the question.... what the hell they are doing with the taxes that were supposed to go to road maintenance in the first place ? Oregon and New Hampshire are considering it now, but if the citizens don't rise up against it, I'm sure it will be coming to your state soon too...

Are you for this or against it ? What would be your major concerns with such a system ?

http://www.dhonline.com/articles/2008/12/28/news/local/1aaa02_road.txt

I am AGAINST it. This is a form of class ware fare on a massive scale and completely unconstitutional. I not only wouldn't support that...I would flat out REFUSE to use such a device or pay a red cent.
