Darjeeling Toy Train
Toy Train in Darjeeling is the name set for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is a narrow gauge course connecting Siliguri and Darjeeling in the state West Bengal, India operational by the Indian Railways. Toy Train Ride:
The toy train consists of three A class coaches and a B class Steam Engine, the train moves from Darjeeling to Gum and returns back with halts at Batasia Loop and Ghum museum.
Sukna Steam Special:
This particular train journeys connecting Siliguri Junction to Sukna and then returns with half an hour halt at Sukna for a break to see the photo gallery there.
Jungle Safari Special:
These trains are introduced only on public demand on weekends and public holidays that connect Siliguri Junction to Tindharia and then back. The main magnetism of this trip is the Mahayana wildlife sanctuary and the Z turns around between Sunk and Tindharia.
On regular days, the DHR operates 3 pairs of Darjeeling Toy Trains. The compositions of the trains can be at variance in the figure of A class coaches and the type of engines. The routes of the trains are – The first train moves from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling and then back .The second train moves again from New Jalpaiguri to Kurseong and then back. The third train moves from Kurseong to Darjeeling and back.

Has anyone travelled recently by the toy train from Neral to Matheran?
I need following details:
- Does this train has general bogies for which seats can be booked on the spot afer reaching at Neral station ?
- IRCTC has the facility to book Neral-Matheran trains, but I wanted to know if there is a GENERAL category also ?
- How full is this train during this off-season. Will spot booking be available for 12 people in Genral class ?
It is a wonderful experience & you must make either to or return journey by this train. It takes about 2 hrs to travel & being an uphill train, no general class is there. You can reach there at about 7.30 a.m. b coz there are 3 trains in pre-noon session. you should get in any one of them. I made it in full season but could get in 2nd transit.
Alternately, from Neral station itself, take a taxi and reach in 20 min. While in matheran, book your return journey.
