Water Heaters: Tanks or on-demand
Electricity consumption has become on of the most important factors governing our lives today as excessive consumption is leading to depletion of natural resources and thus creating a critical situation. Water heaters take a significant amount of electricity that are used in for domestic purposes and it is not surprising that most manufacturers are now looking at creating innovative products that reduce consumption and thus help in not only reducing electricity bills but also creating a far better life around then planet. Water heaters come mainly in two forms. These are the tank types as well as the on-demand heaters, which have no storage capacity and heat the water as it flows through the pipe.
Tank heaters are simple in operation, as they collect water in a tank which has capacities of either 10 liters, 15 liters or 20 liters, and then heat the water to high temperatures. The biggest disadvantage of this type of water heater is that you might not use the entire water that is heated up. Since, the tank is connected to the main pipeline, as hot water level reduces in the tank due to usage, more cold water is filled into the tank. This reduces the temperature of the water in the tank, thereby wasting precious electricity which had been used to heat up the water. Such heaters are useful if you intend to use up the entire capacity of hot water that has been heated, and that too in shorter span of time, before the tank becomes cold, as it is normally switched off once the usage starts. This is normally very effective in case you have simultaneous use of water at the same time, thereby utilizing the entire volume of heated water.
On-demand heaters are quite different, as they do not have a tank and are smaller in size. These heaters heat the water as they flow through the pipe and thus only the water that is used is heated up. The disadvantage connected with this heater is that the heat is not as high as tanker heaters and therefore the temperatures shall only be moderate. The temperature to which the water is heated up also depends on the flow of the water. If you open the pipe to increase the flow, the temperature can even dip further. To get good hot water, you need to limit the flow to much lower levels. In fact, if you have simultaneous use for water in different pipelines, the temperature can be very negligible.
The biggest criteria for deciding on the choice of type of water heater is to analyze the consumption as well times for use at your home. These factors shall decide if you would choose a tank heater or an on-demand heater, thereby determining the electricity consumption.

I am looking for a book that came out in the early to mid 80's about a fictional tank battallion in Germany.
This fictional book was about a tank company in Germany and what would happen if WWIII were to happen. I seem to remember that it may have been written by someone who had been a tanker before. Any help would be appreciated with book title or author's name.
The book was 'Team Yankee' by Harold Coyle
