Can anyone help me with these Alg. 2 word problems?
There are 4 problems.. I don't need you to answer all (though it would be great if you could), just answer what you can/want. I've been trying these problems for the past 3 hours to no avail.
1. Find all triples of consecutive integers such that 11 times the largest of the integers is at least 46 more than the product of the other two.
2. The length of a rectangular sheet of paper was twice its width. After t cm was trimmed from each edge of the sheet, the perimeter was at most 1 m. Find the largest possible dimensions of the trimmed sheet.
3. During the first 20 miles of a 50 mile bike race, Roger's average speed was 16 mph. What must his average speed be during the remainder of the race if he is to finish the race in less than 2.5 hours?
4. In a bicycle race, Lionel gives Robert a 500m advantage. Also, Lionel agrees to start 15 min after Robert. If Lionel Bikes at 17 kph and robert at 14 kph, how long will it take Lionel after he starts biking to overtake Robert?
1) three consecutive integers can be called x, x+1,x+2
11(x+3) is at least 46 more than x(x+1)
11x+33>/=x^2+x+46
Solve the inequality
2)L=2W
if you trim t cm from each edge, then each side becomes 2t cm shorter
So the perimeter is now 2(L-2t)+2(W-2t) and that is
3) He has 30 miles left. And if he has traveled 16mph for 20mi, it has already been 20/16hours=1.25hrs
He needs to travel at 24mph for the rest of the race
