Why are there different brands or names on the same video card modeL?

Such as when you look for a NVIDIA geforce 8600 video card there are EVGA, XFX, ChainTECH LeadTech, GigaByte, Zogis, Foxcon and MSI.
1)Are some better and worse quality and what makes them different?
2)What are the good ones?

1.They're all virtually the same...

2.What sets them apart is mainly the stuff they bundle with it and most importantly, the warranty period.

3.Companies like eVGA (and recently BFG) also offer you a step up program where you can trade in ure graphics card for a better one..and only pay the difference (within 90 days of buying it)

4. Different brands may also have different GPU and memory speeds preset on the cards..so look at the specifications closely.

5. The best ones would be EVGA, XFX and BFG ...without a doubt...
