Scale Bachmann
A Historical Overview of Bachmann Model Trains
With a name like Bachmann, one would more than likely think that this must be a company that is based in Germany, and in fact this really isn't the case at all. In fact, the company is registered in Bermuda and is a Chinese registered company. The companies global headquarters is located in Hong Kong and it's North American headquarters is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
It is through the company based in Pennsylvania that production of the first Bachmann model trains began, and this wasn't until the late 1960's, making this company a late bloomer in the Model Train industry. This late emergence into the industry has in no way effected it's success, and this fact is certainly reflected in their sales record producing an average annual earnings of forty eight million dollars.
From the late 1960's through to the earl 1990's Bachmann specialized in manufacturing model trains that were specifically designed for children, rather than for the more serious collector. These initial trains were not particularly well known for their quality, and it hasn't been until more recent times that they've devoted more attention to constructing sturdier and more durable model trains. Today it can be said that Bachmann is known worldwide for it's attention to detail and sturdiness in all of the trains it manufacturers.
The original line of Bachmann model trains was the N scale. The company soon realized that there was a higher potential for popularity and profit by committing to the manufacture of the HO scale, and subsequently shifted their manufacturing efforts to producing this particular model. Bachmann hadn't positioned themselves to sell globally and the net result of this poor business posture was to sell the company to another called Kader, who was in a position to sell globally, and in doing so Bachmann was able to negate their negative financial position.
Since this time the company has successfully launched a variety of model scales and all live up to a competitive level of quality within the industry. In addition, this company has become well known for their line of scenery products, making their stores a one stop location for all the needs of any hobbyist.
Additionally, after you've purchased the Bachman model trian that appeals to you, and have it set up and running, you may have questions that you'd like answered, or you may want some advice about model railroading, or it may just be that you'd like to interact with other enthusiast. If that happens to be the case, joining Bachman's "dedicated collector's club" may be the perfect decision for you.

Bachmann Model Trains and Their History
Initially, Bachmann specialized in manufacturing model trains for children, and although not of the highest quality, these Bachmann model trains enjoyed their own degree of popularity. It wasn't until more recent times that they switched their attention in their model production to trains that are more directed at the serious collector. Excellence in quality has now become a trademark of this company in their effort to grab an equal share of the model train market.
The initial direction that Bachmann placed it's attention was in the manufacturing of N scale trains, and they soon came to realize that there was a better business opportunity if they also expanded their choice in scales to include the HO scale. The decision to include the HO scale could not have come at a better time for Bachmann, because it allowed them to negate the serious financial position the company had recently fallen into.
Bachmann offers the collector more than one category to choose from, but it should be noted that these trains are not without their expense. One advisable way the hobbyist with an interest in purchasing an era Bachmann train, would be to contact other collectors in an effort to barter with them. This very well may be the most assured way for acquiring the train of their choice.
Among the category choices that Bachmann offers is the pre-war and the post-war. The pre-war models are the trains that will most likely present the challenge of higher expense, because they tend to require more labor to restore them to their original state.
Although there is lower degree of accuracy in the post-war trains that Bachmann manufacturers, "baby boomers" are more apt to add this particular model to their collection. This choice is influenced by the fact that these are the first trains that they experienced in their childhood. An interesting fact about the post-war trains that sets them apart from most model trains that collectors buy, is that they run on fuel rather than electricity, and this unusual quality sets them apart from most other models.
In the end, when making your choice to add a Bachmann model train to your collection, you can be confident in knowing that your part of a unique group of model railroaders.
