Swimming pools : What an enthusiast ought to know

Building a good swimming pool, indoor or outdoor, is not everybody’s cup of tea. And while there are many enthusiasts who seemingly go about wondering where to get started regarding a swimming pool, they all get stuck at one stage; the design. Yes, it’s true.

While there might be many of you who know all the technicalities like which kind of water purification system to use, which kind of tiles to go for, how much area to dedicate for the purpose, the design of a pool always seems to be a bewildering question, the reason for which is simple; we have been accustomed, since childhood, of seeing conventional square or rectangular shaped pools, hence the reason for many of us to say ‘what?’ when asked by the contractor or swimming pool construction company as to which kind of shape we want.

And while we might think that the conventional shape is often the most preferred one and also the safest, having just a stereotype pool design is just like being added on to the ‘me-too’ list of those who know they need a swimming pool, but don’t know how to have it constructed as a stand-apart creation, one that exudes style and sophistication from day one.

Surely, you don’t want to be part of such a crowd, which is why it is extremely important to know what you are getting into before just figuring out cost estimates and other seemingly important details and asking the contractor to choose a design that is the latest trend. Agreed, when you would ask the concerned personnel for options regarding the possible shapes, you would be flabbergasted at the number of variety you can get, and this might easily confuse you.

However, this is where the challenge lies. You must know exactly what you want from your swimming pool, only then would you be able to pick its design. Further, the purpose of a pool is also responsible for its design. For instance, if you want a pool for practicing swimming, then a square, T-shaped or rectangular shaped pool would be best, but if you need a pool just for relaxing, then an infinity type pool in the shape of an alphabet would be both stylish and purposeful. Hence, it is in the end your choice, and your pool. All you need to do is to make sure you have a clear idea regarding what you want from it.

Can swimming cause my ear to hurt and dry up?

I have been swimming a lot (Almost twice everyday) recently. On one of my recent swimming trips when I got out my ear hurt a little. I figured it was just water in my ear so I didnt think much of it. But its now been three days my ear still hurts and the skin is getting really dry.Plus I wake up in the middle of the night and cant get back to sleep. Can anyone tell me what this is and how to cure it. It would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, it's called Swimmer's Ear. There's an OTC medicine you can pick up from Walgreens/Walmart or just about any drug store that should clear it right up, just ask the pharmacist.
