I'm installing a 4 steel strong-walls into my garage. Do I put my beam on top of the strong wall or next to?
I have a 3 car garage and 4 steel strong-walls by Simpson that I'm supposed to install for sheer. I'm not sure if the header is supposed to go on top of the strong wall, or use post next to it to hold up the header. The strong walls go next to each garage bay, as there are 3 seperates.
Please respond, and let me know your confidence behind each answer.
The strong wall is only for shear. A wood beam can go directly on top, but provide a post next to the strong wall. What is called for in the plans? If the engineer calls for a post it should be on the plans as well as the post caps and any other hardware.
