physics help?
Please help me! I DONT GET THIS!
7.The head of a hammer is loose and you wish to tighten it by banging against the top of a workbench. Why is it better to hold the hammer handle down, rather then head down?
8.The little girl in ht figure hangs from the end of a rope. How does the reading on the scale compare with her weight?
9.Harry the painter swings year after year from his bosun’s. He weighs 500N and the rope, unknown to him, has a breaking point of 300N. Why doesn’t the rope break when he is supported as shown on the left? One day Harry is painting near a flagpole and for a change, he ties the free end of the rope to a flagpole instead of his chair. Why dos Harry end up taking his vacation early?
To add to #7: explain in terms of inertia
on #8 there is a little girl holding onto a rope with a scale connecting the two ropes on the rigth side. the rope is going around a large circle and the girl is hanging
The head of the hammer weighs more than the handle and so applies more inertia on the handle when it is on top.
