how to make my train run with optimal speed and power usage?
i have an HO Scale Train (bachmann) and it slowed down after adding a few cars, now should i buy a better transformer, a better engine, or another engine to backup my first one? i am farely new but i know that sometimes two engines can short out the transformers and i also know that sometimes the engines are too weak to run the cars. also i hate to do it but should i remove the metal weights to sacrifice rolling weights or should i just buy new equipment. thanks in advance,

The big picture of it all is you get what you pay for. If you are running a $40.00 Bachmann HO starter set, that is some of your problem. Most quality HO locomotives start at $100.00. Then there is the issue of dirty track, the type of track (brass or nickle silver - N S is the best) and how large the set up is. More then 1 power feed should be added. Large layouts have a power bus running around the benchwork with feeds every 5 to 10 feet.If you invest in newer quality equipment, track and transformer keeping a steady train speed is very easy.
