The talent in the Argentina squad is so vast that Diego Maradona has left out two of Inter Milan's Champions League-winning stars - Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti - and the two-goal hero of the final, Diego Milito, may be his sixth-choice forward.

Key battle: Javier Mascherano v Haruna Lukman, a 19-year-old who plays his club football for Monaco, faces the task of replacing John Obi Mikel in the Nigeria midfield. Mikel plays a far more creative role for his national side than at Chelsea, so his replacement will need to be on top form to get the better of one of the game's greatest defensive midfielders and supply the attackers.

This team, under Coach Shaibu Amodu, are not the team that thrilled the world in their surge to the round of 16 in both 1994 and 1998.The squad is filled with athletic journeymen such as Everton's Joseph Yobo and Chelsea's Jon Obi Mikel. Yakubu and Obefemi Martins provide an attacking threat, but you wonder about their ability to score at the very highest level.

Report: Grizzlies fire coach Iavaroni

The poor play of the Memphis Grizzlies has led to a grisly end to Marc Iavaroni’s tenure as coach of the team.
The Grizzlies relieved Iavaroni of his coaching duties Thursday after 1 1/2 seasons, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported, citing team sources.
The team has an 11-30 record and is on a seven-game losing streak.
The Grizzlies will play the New York Knicks on Friday. The paper reported an assistant to be named will coach the team.
The source told the Commercial Appeal that former Philadelphia 76ers coach Maurice Cheeks and Milwaukee Bucks assistant and former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins are expected to be considered as a replacement for lavaroni.
