Is the northern pre-war vietnamese accent an endangered dialect?
After the Vietnam war, the communists moved alot of teachers from Hue up to the North and subsequently changed the accent in the North. The majority of refugees in America came from the South but there is a minority who grew up in Hanoi before the war and still possess the old Hanoian accent. But it is becoming more and more rare these days to hear a pre war Hanoian in America. And the generations these days are forgetting their old language.
You're right. The pre-war Northern accent sounds most beautiful and poetic. The present Northern accent sounds like coming from a propaganda loudspeaker. How sad!
