Why Consider Toy Model Trains?
Stories about railroads and trains have always been part of every child growing up. We may have acquired it from the television screen or the big screen, from colored books, from magazines or pamphlets, but no matter where we got it from, to the eager eyes of a child, there is something quite magical in seeing a miniature train chugging and tooting along the Train Tracks.
Toy model trains have been around since the 1890's and still manage to capture the hearts of both young and old alike. Real-life tracks that were built early in the 1800's radically changed the transport of people and goods. From that point in history, trains continued to evolve and spread globally. Trains were and still are an important means to connect people, places, and nations. No wonder a lot of us are still hooked on trains - it has become a part of who we are.
Although people from all over the world and age categories are fascinated with trains, there are several reasons why individuals are drawn to this hobby. First, many are not only fascinated with the magical movements of the toy trains, but they are also captivated by the potential to control an entire miniature world. One can design the entire train, from locomotive to rolling stock, as well as the entire scenery that surrounds the train and the track it runs on. In fact, some of the more elaborate and sophisticated Model Train displays could be considered true works of art to be showcased publicly!
Another reason why people consider model trains is due to the fact that this hobby is accessible regardless of their budget level. For some, their first introduction to a train is a simple train set that includes the train and the tracks; this would be the ideal present for a young child's birthday gift or Christmas gift. Others train enthusiasts may want something more elaborate than a simple train set. The good news is that there are many manufacturers producing train products and accessories at all price levels. One simply needs to visit the local hobby shop to see the varieties available.
Model train hobby is also something that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Instead of watching television, parents can educate their children while bonding over a common activity. Imagine how much impact one could have on a child's education by introducing them to various subjects as history, engineering, and craftwork. Well, the good news is that this hobby offers all of this, and it can become a complete learning experience for both adults and children.
There are many reasons why people are attracted to model railroading. The hobby certainly enables people to explore their creativity and build an entire miniature world revolving around the train. In addition, it is accessible at all budget levels and is something the entire family can enjoy. While these are not the only reasons, they are certainly some of the more compelling reasons to consider this hobby. It is no wonder that this hobby has survived for over a century and continues to thrive globally.

Any info on "Track Layers on B&O Railroad" from Ken Burns' "War"?
There were four black women in the picture dated 1943. They were all wearing coats and holding shovels. The picture was also featured in Newsweek magazine recently. I am very curious about the lives of the women.
