Switch Plates - A Guide As To What They Are

Do you gather your plates after you finish eating at a restaurant?
you know to make it easier for the waiter or busboy? I never do it becuase I think that it is easier for them to do it themselves that way they can do it the way they like to. On the other hand my husband always stacks the plates and tries to gather all the untensils and napkins and pile it up. He says to make it easier for the waiter. What is proper etiquitte or what do waiters/waitresses/busboys prefer?
I think the proper thing to do is to leave them as they are but at least put the utensils and napkins in the plate so they are not all over the place. A waiter or waitress etc. might like to collect them or stack them there own way. So I guess its best to say that you just let them do their job and be kind to them and say thank you if you are there when they grab your plate. Also leave a generous tip to the waitress or waiter or whomever you think deserves it, if you can.
