What is the Easiest way to Open Bottles of Enamel Model Paint Which are stuck Shut. We have tried pliers.?
My Kids are doing model building for 4 H. Every time we sit down to do more painting work, we have to fight for hours getting the paint bottles open. We have thrown away too much paint because we NEVER can get it open. ANd the kids don't want to finish the projects becaus it is no fun anymore because of the hassle. HELP Please.
Run the lid under hot water for a couple moments (not easy because they're small, I know).
The lids are getting stuck because they're not always sealed tightly enough and air is making the paint cake at the lid.
Try to make a habit of wiping the lip of the jar with a paper towel before sealing, and if you're going to be not usung the paint for a while, add a couple drops of thinner before sealing (without mixing it in).
It's also been suggested that the paint doesn't cake as fast if the bottles are stored upside down. I haven't tried this yet, personally.
Another thing to try with kids and model building: if it is light colored plastic and you want to highlight small details, use different colored Sharpie pens. Sharpie even makes a metallic silver that is visible on dark colors and plastics.
