Or maybe they could both meet at third base.
No because the whole reason the pitcher and catcher talk is to discuss private matters that relate to the game. That is why they cover their mouths with their gloves so nobody can hear what they're saying. If they talked at home plate, the batter would hear everything that they would be planning to throw to him.
The catcher will either call time and go out to the mound, or the pitcher will call time and wave for the catcher to meet him out there.
And another thing . . . They will NEVER meet at third base. That would be just stupid and weird.
