How to find out the approximate value of an old ( 1968) Lionel Train?
have any clue on how to find out the value of an Lionel Train? It's from 1968....and how to tell which scale or whatever ( i know nothing about toy trains)!
In 1968 Lionel was only making 1 size - O Gauge. The value is based on a few things, mostly condition and what the numbers of the items are (I E the car number or the locomotive cab number) The condition is very important. There is a criteria for judging the condition established by the TCA (Train Collectors Association. http://www.traincollectors.org What might be considered "good condition" by the average person might not fit the TCA description. I have heard that the TCA condition criteria ironically has nothing to do with the locomotive actually runs!
The item number will lead to how many were made - also a big factor of worth.
There is a general misconception that all Lionel trains are worth a ton of money. That is not true. Lionel made some very cheap junky trains as part of their bottom line sets that are not worth much at all.
A quick check of worth would be to look in the closed listings on eBay for the same items you have. That is not a carved in stone method, but it usually pretty quick and easy..
