how can i determine intensity of light from a lamp using an LDR?
I have been given a physics assignment to inevstigate how intensity of light emitted from a lamp varies with wavelength. In the experiment I am to use diffraction gratings to produce a spectrum and then measure the effect on the LDR at intervals. For my experiment I need to explain how intensity can be obtained from the LDR, this is the part I don't understand as I cannot find a connection between resistance and intensity, can anybody point me in the right direction?
You got part of the answer already. There is NO connection between resistance and light intensity for a certain range of wavelengths. But as the wavelength decreases (i.e. frequency or energy increases), you reach a threshold such that the resistance will decrease with light intensity.
The caveat is that if the light is NOT energetic enough (i.e. not at or above the threshold frequency), no matter how high the intensity (brightness) of the light increases, no electrons are being released; hence resistance is not affected.
