How to Design a First Class Bedroom
The bedroom is meant to be a place to relax and unwind; a safe haven from the outside world where you can enjoy a bit of peace. This is why the design of your bedroom can have a profound effect on your mood. The best way to enjoy your bedroom is to personalize the space by adding design elements that suit your style, mood, and personality. Here are some important things to remember in designing a first class bedroom.
Make sure you fill the room with things that you love. If you enjoy earthy neutral shades for a warm, homey feeling, then focus your design efforts around that theme. Likewise, if you prefer whimsical pastels, verdant greens, rich jewel tones, or any other color scheme, choose something that is in keeping with the mood you want to set.
The bed is usually the focal point of the bedroom, and there are a number of ways to add to the design theme of your room. Angling your bed from the corner makes a dramatic statement, and is a great way to fill a large room. Complete the look by placing a large potted plant in the open space behind the headboard.
Canopied beds are also quite visually stunning. They provide a sense of seclusion, and create a feeling of being cocooned in privacy as you sleep or lounge in the bed. There are several styles of bed canopies, from full and partial canopies on a four poster frame, to canopies that hang from a frame suspended from the ceiling. Gauzy, light colored canopies create a fresh and whimsical look, while rich fabrics and deep colors create a sense of warmth.
Lighting is an important part of designing your bedroom as well. Even if you have a central ceiling lighting fixture, you will want to acquire table lamps for your bedroom that can provide the right ambience when you don't want the harsh overhead light. A reading lamp on your bedside table is perfect when you want a soft, muted glow. You can also use lighting to highlight framed portraits or artwork on the walls.
While your bedroom is a place to sleep, you can also create a cozy corner for reading, listening to music, or enjoying a pleasant view. If you have a lot of floor space, break it up with a comfortable sitting area featuring plush chairs and an ottoman or coffee table. You can also use a corner bookshelf to house your favorite books and music for those times when you feel like staying in and enjoying the solitude of your bedroom.
Creating a designer bedroom is really about taking certain design elements and running with a theme that speaks to you. The goal isn't to create a cutting edge theme to impress, but rather to create a space that sets a comforting tone that's uniquely you. There are many resources both online and off that can help you piece together the elements that most appeal to you. Try taking the time to browse color schemes and different styles of fabrics and furniture to determine what you find most appealing when it comes to creating a comfortable bedroom.

How do interior designers hide lamp cords?
Bust open any copy of Martha Stewart Living, or House Beautiful, or Fancy Shmancy Living, and it becomes immediately apparent that the owners of these beautifully decorated homes do not have lamps, phones, or other electronic equipment with power cords. Is there really a way to hide them in a normal home, or are they just hidden away for the photo spread?
Here's an example: http://www.fionacampbelldesign.co.uk/images/homepage/Interior_Design_Living_room_layout.jpg
Where are the cords for the lamps?
Being Martha, it's entirely possible that she had a receptacle installed in the floor directly under the lamp. That's a possibility, and I'd guess very likely. You can do that if you like, but remember-real people don't have her budget to move the outlet and patch the floor when we rearrange the furniture. Floor outlets do work nicely though. Hope this helps.
