Is it excessive to get a car inspection and carfax report when buying a used car?
I am in California and I want to buy a used 2002 Acura RSX. Would I need to do both carfax and a car inspection or is that excessive? Which one is better to pick if I only need one? Thanks!
Do both. These buyers tools are meant to provide two completely different types of information.
A Carfax report will tell you the odometer history. It will inform you if the car was ever wrecked. It will tell you the registration history (where the car was registered), whether the car was in private use, a fleet or a rental car.
An inspection will tell you if the A/C is working properly, if the brakes, tires, suspension and are in good working condition, if the electrical system is functioning. In other words an inspection will tell you if the car has been well maintained and in good working order.
Two different tests, two different sets of results.
