How To Predict An Engine Compression Tester Gauge Reading?
I was wondering if anyone knew of a formula that can predict an engine compression tester gauge reading from known compression ratio and barometric pressure?
For example if your compression ratio is 10:1 and the barometric pressure is 29.92inHg then the desired compression Tester gauge reading should be less than 132.3

It's not quite that easy, as you need to know the position of the piston on the compression stroke, as both inlet and exhaust valves are still open at the commencement of the stroke. It will not begin compressing until they are both shut. It's called the "cranking" pressure.
A 10:1 compression value is the total swept volume of the cylinder, plus the "clearance" capacity, divided by the clearance capacity. It ignores the valve closings.
Your actual ideal pressure will therefore be lower than your calculation above (not sure how you arrived at that?).
The usual way of doing a compression test on a motor is to look for equality between cylinders, not necessarily any particular pressure.
You are only looking for problems that may be present in 1 cylinder.
If there were wear problems in the entire engine such that it lacks compression in ALL cylinders, its state of wear would be evidenced by the piston blowby when running, or blowing into the intake or exhaust ports.
Compression testing then, is a waste of time.
