Aircraft Fuel Tank Preventive Maintenance Tips Of The Decade
Owners/Operators, and air crew need to watch the aircraft fueling process and check the fuel as it is being pumped, to avoid water becoming a breeding ground for microbes in the jet fuel or AV gas.
We here at Global Aircraft Service recommend the flight crew to follow the instructions in their aircraft's operating manual, to sump their aircraft. If there is free water in the fuel, it normally will be seen in the sump because water is heavier than fuel and it collects in the low spots where sump drains are found. If a black or dark brown type of substance appears in the sump sample, the aircraft crew should know that it contains and watch out.
If fuel manifolds become contaminated withbacterial growth, clogged fuel injectors may spray unevenly, causing the engines to run hotter. These clogged fuel nozzles can have a long term negative impact on power output and engine operating efficiency. Also fuel that is contaminated with microbes can clog both the aircraft engines' low and high pressure filters. If that happens, you should in a timely manner, to avoid long term impact.
Jet fuel runs the gauntlet through critical part in the fuel system where orifices need to remain free of any contaminants that may affect the fuel flow. The fuel must flow freely from the fuel tank to the return line filter, then through the in line (low pressure) filter, then moving to the furl boost pump and onto the high pressure filter. The fuel then runs through the furl manifolds and fuel injectors. This may vary slightly depending on the type of the aircraft, but contaminated fuel is not good. If any flow points become impeded, aircraft's engine may reach 70 to 80 percent of the expected cycle life before running hot and ending up having to be removed for overhaul. Preventive maintenance of your fuel tanks can save you money, hassle and time.

When store lawn tractor,do I need to tdrain out the fuel, or I can just leave it in fuel tank with stabilizer?
I always leave fuel in fuel tank with stabilizer during the winter for the motorcycle, because the moisture will cause rust. But the owner's manual of the lawn tractor says drain it out. I'm confused. Please help!
for my motorcycle, I always fill up the tank all the way and add the stabalizer. Then I shut off the fuel valve and run my engine dry. Obviously you can't shut off the fuel, but the rest should be fine
