NEW RUGBY PLAYER NEED HELP!!?
Ok im from the US and im joining a rugby team in 1 WEEK! I need help to see what position I should go for. Here are some things about me...
15 years old
5'9 (1.8 M)
135 Ibs (61KG)
Now for my skills
Passing- decent
Kicking- bad (but OK at grubber)
rucking- dont know but im agressive
composure- not good (remember im just starting)
vision- good
speed- good
stamina- OK (i dont think i can go an entire game)
catching- perfect
moves (sidestep ext.)- great
tackle- OK
Please help me before time runs out. I know im going to be a back. What kind of a workout should i do. I already have strong legs, and big shoulders.
Easiest place to start is certainly on the wing. But if you are ready to make a long-term commitment to basic skills of passing and kicking(and depending on the needs and personnel of your team), you might give some thought to scrum half. Your comments about good vision and aggressiveness are important for a halfback. Learning to pass both directions and discovering the tactics of controlling your pack are key.
Best bet: turn out, introduce yourself to the coaching staff as a new players (they probably will ask for new players to identify themselves), and seek their guidance. Then work as hard as you can, while watching and learning.
With a week to go, no workout program is going to have much effect by your first day, but try to put in some extra running for endurance throughout the season.
