Express Train Set
Stop the Train (of Life) I Want to Get Off
Why does life treat us so? It goes at such a pace. Life rushes along at such a pace. At such a rate. Often without a let up. It sometimes gives us so little time for reflection. Other times it is more forgiving.
Yet we have that feeling of being on an express train. Going from one station to another. At frantic pace. At times this is terrific. Uplifting. Exhilarating even. Being taken through life and its rich treasures, one after the other, on and on.
Other times we have just had enough. We wish things would slow down. We need rest. We need relaxation. We need for the pace to slow down. But what we really need? What we really need is for life to stop. Just for awhile. We cry, ‘Stop the train I want to get off’.
At times life does not heed our cry. Other times it does and we are grateful for it. For the chance to stop and look at life anew.
At these times we need a breather. We need time to refresh ourselves. A time to recharge our batteries. A chance to put things into perspective. To look at things with fresh eyes. To see things as they really are.
And with this new knowledge we can tackle life again. Tackle things with renewed energy. With requisite confidence and motivation.
Coming back to our journey on the train of life. The train that can take us to the stations of life that we need to visit. Through the countryside and to our destination. And our promised land, is that where we wish to arrive?
We can now forge on. We have had our time for refreshment. We have been fed and watered. We now are suitably hydrated. We are ready to move forward. Are we ready to claim our true position in life.
Are we motivated to use our train stop in the siding to recuperate? To take advantage of our respite. But now both ready and willing to claim our place.
But what of the problem that initiated our request for such a break. The reason for our wanting the train to stop. How should we now tackle that? The rest we have taken advantage of, but the problem still exists.
How should we now deal with that? We just need to take a little care. Be willing to give ourselves a little time. To let things gently simmer underneath.
Do not rush into an answer, a decision. Let life show you the way. But give life the chance to show you. Remember a little lesson, that once known is well worth remembering.
And what is that? To be able to sleep on a problem.
To be able to sleep on a problem and the next day often clarity comes. And clarity arrives with its different set of circumstance and priorities. The seemingly impossible appears simple, and the solution appears as if by magic. The dawning of a new day renders the difficult solvable, brings light to grey and dark , a new perspective. With fresh and not quite so intense eyes, perhaps slightly removed.
You can now travel on your life’s train journey with renewed energy and resolve.

What's the difference between National Express & National Rail?
It seems Express is much more expensive. How are the trains set up? Are they like subways? Where would I keep several suitcases?
National Express is a company that operates long distance coaches between cities and also runs some train services.
National Rail (NR) is a name given to what used to be known as "The Association of Train Operating Companies" (ATOC). This is the commercial association comprising all of the independent train operators and represents their common interest to the government.
The name National Rail is seen as being more customer-friendly than ATOC . It is used on maps and signs to distinguish main-line railways from Underground lines and preservation lines, etc.
This is a very reluctant nod from the government towards the travelling public, who like the idea of an integrated transport network.
The original integrated railway network (British Rail) was broken up in 1995 and good things like national timetables and through-ticketing were discarded. Only now are they finally realising that this was a big mistake and "Joe Public" doesn't like it.
Your use of "subways" suggests that you're not British. It's not a word used here to describe underground railways. Subways are usually pedestrian tunnels under roads or a type of bread roll.
The main line trains usually have racks for suitcases at the ends of seat rows or between seat backs (unless they are short-haul commuter units, then you have to stuff your case between your legs).
The fares for all main line trains normally have a variation of up to 100% between cheapest and dearest regardless of what company you're dealing with.
The most expensive fare for any individual journey is the "turn-up-and-ride" ticket and the cheapest will be the off-peak ticket that you buy in advance (usually at least a day before you travel).
National Express long distance coaches are usually cheaper than the train on a route-for-route basis, but are often slower and less comfortable. The coaches do have capacious "holds" for storing their passengers' bags so that is a bonus.
EDIT - There seems to be some confusion with other answers. The people who own and maintain the railway tracks and infrastructure are NETWORK Rail, not National Rail.
