Can I install a diesel engine in my car?
I currently have a '99 Saturn, SC2. It is starting to show its age lately and has begun burning oil. I've been told the two options I have are to replace the engine or buy a new car. My question is, would it be possible to take out the original engine and replace that with a diesel engine? I would like to use vegetable oil as fuel at some point after that too.
Since buying a new car sounds like the more logical explanination, are there any good diesel engine cars on the market? How much do they cost?
Since that car never came from the factory with a diesel motor, it would be a custom, one-off, very expensive job. And being front wheel drive further complicates things by incorporating a lot of headaches into one small area.
If I were to do it, I'd swap in the entire engine and transaxle from a TDI Jetta or something like that. Of course, the more logical choice would be to just buy a TDI Jetta and drive that.
