who invented canals? and who invented locks?
i think its DeWitt Clinton, who instructed the Erie Canal which was the first. but i have no information on him so i need some.
help is appriciated.
--"Andrew Yarranton (1619-1684) was the father, the inventor, of our canal system, and it speaks highly of his genius that he not only proposed to connect the Thames with the Severn by water, but that the route he selected for the new canal was that actually chosen for the canal which was cut a century after his death."
--"The oldest known lock was found by archeologists in the Khorsabad palace ruins near Nineveh. The lock was estimated to be 4,000 years old. It was a forerunner to a pin tumbler type of lock, and a common Egyptian lock for the time...
The first serious attempt to improve the security of the lock was made in 1778 in England. Robert Barron patented a double-acting tumbler lock."
