Does anyone have any ideas that will work for making a self-powered car?
I have to build a soap box car to race around the campus for my physics class. The conditions are that I have to power it, and it has to have a shell. My class is the first class to do the project so there isn't much examples or ideas provided. Though it was suggested that we could use petels to power it? So any ideas, and how would I be able to steer it as there will be corners to go around? Plans are welcome too, though I figured that this project will probally be a test as you go type of thing.

Will this be a race or just get it around the campus? If it is a race then try some recombent type of device. Like a rack and pinion type which would allow you to use more leg power to the wheels. Steering, could be as simple as a pivot point with ropes on it wrapped around a broom handle and a steering wheel to turn the pole..
