Why is Self Hatred such an understatement with some Black people?
What I mean is, if we know denying that you are one race and expressing racism towards your own people, not liking what race you are makes you a self hater. Why does that apply to Black people who love who they are, embrace their culture and don't approve of or associate with certain black people based on their character not race? Have you heard people call Blacks self haters for the opposite reason of being a self hater?
Good question
I think the answer is Yes
But because I think mostly some people have not come the point where they can understand that being proud of my color/culture/ heritage is not all inclusive
The two are exclusive of each other – culture and race and character are not synonymous with each other and many people(with in our culture, the black culture that is) have not gotten to the point where they are willing to separate the two and accept the criticisms exclusively and separately especially from outsiders
And when it comes from with in our community there is suspicion that we have sold out or that we have forgotten the plight of our people. It is a crutch and something that is working its way out but only if we don’t get scared and allow people to bully us into thinking or believing we are not proud of who we are and that is why it is a slow process. Many people don’t like to be called names and don’t have the self esteem to push through the lies and bullying. But it takes one to change the world
